To All the Boys I've Loved Before

Step One, Before Watching the Movie:

"To All the Boys I've Loved Before" is a Netflix Original, as well as, directed by Susan Johnson, and post in 2018. This movie is an Adult-Romantic Comedy, rated TV-14.

Step Two, Plot Overview:

This Netflix original movie opens with a character named Lara Jean Covey, she is a sixteen-year-old girl and very smart. Lara has had five crushes and wrote letters that she wasn't going to send, ever. The story starts off with her sister named, Margot dates Josh, one of her crushes. This dating fiasco turns into the worst surprise and they break up when she goes off to college. After a long night, Laura then had a movie night with her little sister, Katie and she falls asleep on the couch...that's where it all starts. Once Laura is asleep Katie sneaks up to her room and sends the letters she once wrote to her crushes when she was young. The next morning Laura is a very confused and three out of the five crushes walk up to her and talk to her. The very first crush is named Peter Kavinsky and that is where it all starts. Watch "To All the Boys I've Loved Before" to see the rest of the story!

Step Three, Critiquing in Categories:

In this Netflix original movie, there are some major themes taking .place. Some major themes that take place are, never give up, and don't be "second best" for anyone. The theme never give up is persevered through a tough time with Peter and Laura when they break up and go through many tough times. When someone is not giving up on something don't block them from achieving their goal. The second theme is don't be "second best" for anyone. This is said in the middle of the film by Laura and Peter then said, "You were never second best to me." In the film they were talking about being with each other and other girls getting in the way. This is something that I think everyone should learn, persevere through by being there best, and speak up when this is happening to you.
In this Netflix original movie it is told from the third-person point of view. Using the third-person point of view is when the narrator is telling the story. This is important when critiquing film because you want to make sure the story doesn't confuse the watchers.  Using the first-person point of view is when someone else is telling the story for you and second person point of view is when the narrator tells the story to the readers.
In this Netflix original movie, there are multiple moods and tones. The first mood that is portrayed is very sad and dramatic. This mood is felt by the watchers because in the beginning Margot and Peter break up and she goes off to college. The mood is very necessary to portray any type of mood to attract the audience in and make sure they don't stop the show the first chance they get. There are also many tones that are portrayed in Laura's life as well. In this movie, they tend to add music or other sounds to further the movie.
In this Netflix original movie, the cinematography is very precise in the aspects that no real flags are shown. The camera angles are very good and have no bad angles of the actors. The lighting can affect the way people see the mood of the show but I think that when it was sad it was darker than when people were happy. Although sometimes it seems like it was a bit darker than anticipated. Other factors that can affect the film and cinematography seems spotless. I personally have watched this movie four times and have enjoyed it every time and have seen no major flaws.
In this Netflix original movie, the set design tends to be realistic and good. In life having a good and understand set design can make the movie tons better. Many reporters have said that the set design is very repetitive, but I believe otherwise. If the set is repeated you then understand what is happening and know from the past in the movie what has happened here. Knowing the set in movies or plays can ensure a good movie experience and make you understand what is happening.
In "To All the Boys I've Loved Before" there are many aspects that are not critiqued but it is a very high rated film overall. I believe that the movie flew by so fast, and there needs to be another just like this. Since as a cinema critic I do watch a lot of movies this is one of my top movies. I have watched this movie over four times and believe there aren't any major flaws that I can see. Now, this doesn't mean that other critics will not say the same but I do believe that it is really good. Out of 10, I would give this movie a 9.5 out of 10, because there is a little bit I see but still recommend this movie to others.
